Sustainable water management at Eosta

At Eosta, water management is one of the main themes in our sustainability programme. Our producers, located in areas such as Peru, Mexico, Spain and South Africa, often rely on limited water resources for cultivation. These regions are increasingly facing drought conditions, making efficient water use even more important.

Optimisation in the chain

Throughout the chain, from cultivation to processing, there is a growing focus on responsible water use. This is often done through a water standard or certification, several of which are now available in the market.

At Eosta, we support our producers in various ways to optimise water management.

Organic cultivation & Sustainability Flower

Our organic growing method contributes to improved soil water retention and reduced surface water pollution. Water is one of the topics assessed in our Sustainability Flower assessments, a tool we use to evaluate and improve our producers' impact on the environment.

Together with our growers, we look at how to improve soil quality and water holding capacity. An interesting example is that many of our avocado growers in Kenya and Mexico do not need irrigation; the trees grow in their natural environment, where rainy seasons provide sufficient water.

Cooperation with IDH-SIFAV

Eosta is a member of the industry covenant IDH-SIFAV. Together with importers and retailers, sustainability targets are collectively pursued. On water management members commit to purchase a substantial part of their volume from high-risk areas from growers with water certification, such as GlobalGap's SPRING add-on, by 2025.

With these initiatives, we are taking important steps towards a more sustainable future.
