EU opts for True Cost Accounting - help us convince the UN now!

Eosta's advocacy and Nature & More campaigns bear fruit

Last week (September 9 and 10), the EU Parliament asked the Commission to include True Cost Accounting in the Green Deal's Farm to Food food strategy. The parliament voted for several amendments calling for a 0% VAT rate on fruits and vegetables and higher taxes on meat and soft drinks. Eosta has often called for these measures in recent years through CEO Volkert Engelsman, so we may call this a breakthrough.

It is now time to move on to the rest of the world. On September 23, the UN Food Systems Summit will take place in New York, where the future of sustainable food production after Corona will be discussed. A global coalition, which Eosta has been involved in from the start, is calling on the UN in a letter to put True Cost Accounting high on the agenda. The letter asks to identify the hidden costs of food production to health, environment and society and take appropriate fiscal measures. You can think of a carbon tax and VAT measures.
